India denies tourist evisa for the UK and Canadian nationals.

Citizens of the UK and Canada do not have the facility of Indian e-visa.

India has currently suspended evisas to citizens of the UK and Canada. If the nationals of these two countries want to travel to India on a tourist visa, they must apply using a paper visa application form. The reason for such a policy towards the citizens of Canada and the United Kingdom appears to be a mutual treatment from the Indian government which has withdrawn the e-Visa facility given to the citizens of these countries.

The reason for suspending e-visa for UK and Canada.

One of the main reasons that led to this policy from India was due to the reason that when the wave of Covid had calmed down a bit and Indian travelers started traveling to the UK and Canada, both these countries imposed a lot of restrictions on the entry of Indian citizens. Many of which are still in existence and have caused a lot of inconveniences to Indian travelers. Though the Indian government did make requests for the travel restrictions to be removed on its nationals, they were not given attention to. In retaliation,  India also took steps to impose similar restrictions on the citizens of these countries and removed them from the list of Indian eVisa.

The UK and Canada are still on India’s suspension list for e-visa.

By the way, the UK has now removed many restrictions implemented earlier on Indian travelers. It now allows the Covid vaccine made and taken in India to be valid for Indian travellers to travel to the UK. However, India still has not extended the facility of eVisa to UK travelers which was withdrawn in the first week of August 2021. As a consequence, the UK and Canadian citizens now have to apply for a regular sticker visa on a paper application form.  For further information visit indianvisaonline.gov.in

Applying for an Indian visa on a paper form costs more time and money.

Applying for an Indian Tourist Visa this way not only takes more time (you have to fill out the application, print it, and then send it along with the original passport and photos. Whereas for Indian eVisa, you don’t have to send any documents). Moreover, the cost of a sticker visa is up to 70% more expensive compared to applying for a one-month evisa. This is not the first time that India has suspended eVisa for certain countries.

This is definitely not the first time that India has suspended eVisa for foreigners, after the violent incident of Galwan Valley, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed, the Chinese were also suspended from applying for the eVisa.
However, as the UK has eased its travel restrictions and quartine rules for Indian travellers, it is anticipated that India will also follow the suit and would allow the UK nationals to avail eVisa like before. India is going to permit foreign travellers to visit India from 15 November 2021 and it is hoped that it will lift the suspension around that time.

Indian paper visa is 4 times more expensive than eVisa.

Applying for Indian eVisa is not only a lot convenient than applying for a regular paper visa, but it is also a lot cheaper as well. Currently, if you could apply for an India eVisa, that would have cost you around $30 for a month, however, if you apply for a regular paper visa, that will set you back around $160+ just for the visa fee. On top of the visa fee, there will be the cost of sending the documents, and or, you may have to attend the Indian embassy personally for the visa. The only benefit of an Indian regular paper visa is that it comes with 6-month validity whereas an Indian eVisa is valid for 30 days.

As of 05 January 2022, Indian eVisa for UK and Canada is still not available.

It is really not helping anybody. There are millions of people of Indian origin living permanently in these two countries and yet the Indian government has failed to reinitiate the eVisa for these two countries. I am not sure about the Canadian situation that may have triggered the cause denying the eVisa for its citizens, but the issue with the UK government has long been resolved (it all started when the UK was not recognizing the Indian made covid vaccine valid and the Indian travellers had to go through all that PCR tests to self-isolation when arriving in the UK).  But still, there is no sign or any indication of eVisa for the UK travellers.
